AYA PRESS BOOKS

Aya Press’ mission is to publish books ordinarily rejected by mainstream publishers for being too controversial and/or noncommercial.  I seek submissions from writers who have a unique vision of the world and have chosen to share it through nonfiction, fiction, and creative nonfiction with thought provoking content that exemplifies the operating principle of the Adinkra word aya: defiance, independence, and resourcefulness.  Peace, Marcia L. McNair, Publisher

Marcia L. McNair, a former assistant editor at Essence Magazine, currently teaches English and Journalism at Nassau Community College, and African American Literature at Molloy College.  A native of New Jersey, she now lives on Long Island.  E-Males is her first novel.

AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM HOSTS READING OF E-MALES FOR WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

On Saturday, March 31, at 2:00 PM, the African American Museum of Nassau County will host a reading of Marcia McNair’s E-Males. Sponsored by Poets & Writers, Inc., the reading will be the culminating event in the Museum’s celebration of Women’s History Month.

Marcia McNair is a professor of English at Nassau Community College and teaches African American Literature at Molloy College. She received a grant in 2006 and 2007 from the Long Island Council for the Arts at Freeport to perform, produce and direct Diary of A Mad Black Feminist. A former assistant editor at Essence, she writes fiction, creative nonfiction, and social commentary. E-Males is her first novel.

E-Males is an intimate glimpse of what African American women really think and say when they think no one else is around. Ebony and Wanita connect on the Internet, and proceed to rant and rave about on- and off-line romances, meddling mothers, single parenting, workplace drama, and brothers on the Down Low while simultaneously debating serious issues about race, class, and gender.

Poets & Writers, Inc. is the primary source of information, support, and guidance for creative writers. Founded in 1970, it is the nation’s largest nonprofit literary organization serving poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers.

This event will take place from 2:00-4:00 PM at the African American Museum, 110 North Franklin Street, Hempstead, Long Island. Light refreshments will be served.
